Also the impaired sensor effect is very good when you mass PPCs in one or more mechs. And the PPCs are better in general to headcap because they're more consistent, you can have more of them than Gauss in the same mech, making them far superior when the target has some damage reduction, although they're still are bad. So the AC10 is way more flexible, with long range (vs very long range of the Gauss) and also (again) lighter. My point about the AC10 is using it at very short range together with other weapons so it doesn't matter much not having super long range and the minimum range of the Gauss overlaps with short range weapons even with maxed pilots, which is a no go. So over 360m up to their maximum range all three weapons have the same penalties due to distance. ![]() The optimal range is exactly the same as the PPC and not much higher than the AC10 (360m vs 300m). The extended range of the Gauss is better but it's harder to actually use it (it's hard even with PPCs), and it doesn't translate over more accuracy on the whole range. ![]() Gauss has +5% extra to hit chance (not exactly huge) but also has more recoil than the AC10. Over the PPC has a big advantage but only when no damage reduction is considered. Gauss has 5 extra damage (wow) over the AC10++ 10dmg (exactly zero difference for headhunting at long range), has not extra inherent crit chance (which would be worthless anyway for headcapping in one shot). better crit chance (built into the weapon), better base damage, better range, which means more accuracy OVER that range.Let's see: Originally posted by Ichthyic:I speak from experience, not theory. And by doing that you're getting more DHS too, which is very nice. They are rare but still less rare than Gauss Ammo in 1.2 and before. I think 2t per gauss is more than enough and that's what you get now with a fully equipped 733B, for which you can get parts or a full one in Flashpoint rewards and also buy parts or the mech in the Black Market. The only problem is that such a mech, unless it's an A2 will not have a very sustainable alpha, but can be used with lower damage for regular combat and only alpha for headcapping.Īs for the ammo how much do you need?. That includes lots of ML, SML, SRMs, with maybe an AC10, which helps but you need to sacrifice armour. If the target has damage reduction then PPCs are better at long range and also are more compatible with shorter ranges, which is the reason I'd say the AC10 is actually better than the Gauss for headhunting.īecause if you really want a specialized mech to headhunt then the best choice is a short range one, far better. It's the best in one very specific scenario: at very long range, a clean very long line of sight which require advanced scouting and it's not always possible due to the map and requiring the target mech not being in cover/bulwark/guard. It sounds cool but I'm not a fan of the weapon in this game.Īnd, you can get gauss rifles as rewards (rarely) in other scenarios, but they don't guarantee you will get any ammo to use them with :PĪFAIK, this is the only FP where you are guaranteed gauss ammo, and the only one where you can get up to 6. The irony is that I got a Gauss++ in other FP and I've not used it yet. ![]() Originally posted by danko9696:Just in case, if you go for the other target instead you get six DHS, four-five Medium Pulse lasers -meh- and three Small ER Lasers, which are actually very nice to complement MLs++ (still not the same range) and much rarer than the Gauss. it is not sold in the stores, and no other mechs I have seen on the field carry gauss rifles, though I suppose you have a tiny tiny chance of running into a 733b on the field.Īnywho, hope that helps someone who is hunting for gauss ammo. I'm pretty sure barring buying a highlander 733b for over 20 million, this is the only other way to get ammo. ![]() Go for max salvage, and a the end of the mission, you can take all 3 pieces of the custom jagermech, 2 gauss ammo, and whatever else you want, including an extra gauss rifle.Īfter that, the flashpoint will finish, and you will get 2 MORE gauss rifles and 2 ammo as your "lostech item", for a total of 6 ammo. anything the AI can do, you can do better after all. To get 6 gauss rifles/ammo, you have to take down the sniper pirate custom jagermech without damaging the gauss rifles or ammo on the mech, and have the mech with at least 3 pieces intact. If you get the flashpoint where you are to hunt down one of the two leaders of pirates, go for the sniper and you can get SIX of the rarest item in the game right now.
